What you can expect –
The Next Generation Science Standards were developed by states to improve science education for all students. Since the creation, NGSS has been adopted by 20 states and the District of Columbia as well as another 24 have adopted standards based on the same framework which has led to K-12 districts across the nation to implement changes that align science curricula to the standards, which stress skills such as communication, collaboration, inquiry, problem-solving and flexibility.

NGSS focuses on three distinct and equally important dimensions to learning science—cross-cutting concepts, science and engineering practices, and disciplinary core ideas. These dimensions are combined to form each standard—or performance expectation—and all work together to give students a comprehensive understanding of science. The webinar will focus on understanding NGSS and will explore effective instruction based on the science and engineering practices.

Dr. Stephen Pruitt, a strong champion for our children and public schools is also known as the father of NGSS. Mr Pruitt is President of the Southern Regional Education Board (SREB). He started his education career as a high school chemistry teacher and served in several leadership roles at the Georgia Department of Education including Assistant Superintendent for assessment and accountability and chief of staff, Senior Vice President for Achieve and has worked closely with many state agencies and educators around the country.
